Franco gets a feel for stadium after big win

GLASGOW crushed archrivals Edinburgh yesterday in the first rugby match for 20 years at the national football stadium.

And now Warriors coach Franco Smith hopes the match here will be an annual event.

The home team were 33-0 up and cruising before two late tries gave the capital club a glimmer of hope for Saturday's 1872 Cup second leg at Murrayfield.

Nearly 28,000 four times the capacity of Scotstoun were there to watch.

Smith knows his team could not attract a crowd of that size for every URC match. But he reckons Hampden is the ideal venue for big games like this.

"I hope so," he said when asked if the derby could become an annual event here.

"I would sincerely hope so.

"It's a special event. It's special playing Edinburgh here but we want to make sure it's a quality event every time.
