HARRY'S GAME

HARRY PATON is determined to be banging on the door of the Canada squad after learning the Maple Leafs will open their 2026 World Cup campaign in his hometown Toronto.

It might be over two years and 3200 miles away from Motherwell but the Fir Park midfielder knows Lanarkshire can help unlock a lifelong dream of his.

FIFA revealed on Sunday that the co-hosts would begin their campaign at BMO Field Stadium - the home of Toronto FC where Paton had a season ticket as a kid.

It's the venue where a 10-year-old Paton fell in love with what he still calls soccer.

And seeing the biggest competition of world football head there in a couple of years' time could complete a spectacular journey back to where it all began.

The 25-year-old, who won his first full cap last October, said: "I'm based in Toronto and Canada's first World Cup game was just announced as being at the BMO Field Stadium in Toronto.
