FORMER Scotland skipper Colin Hendry last night paid a heartfelt tribute to Craig Brown and revealed how he supported him in his darkest days after his wife Denise died.
Hendry-dubbed Braveheart by the Tartan Army - was made captain by Brown the last time Scotland reached the World Cup Finals in France 1998.
He won most of his 51 caps under the legendary manager, who died at the age of 82 on Monday after a short illness.
But he insists it was the care and compassion shown by the country's longest-serving international boss off the pitch that made him stand out.
Hendry, 57, lost Denise in 2009 following complications arising after cosmetic surgery.
