Star claims he expected it to be a 'little artistic gem'
BABY Reindeer comic Richard Gadd has revealed he is struggling to cope with fame – after fans camped in his garden.
The Scot, 34, says the Netflix show's runaway success means he is unable to walk the streets without being mobbed.
He expected it to sit as "a little cult artistic gem" when it first aired.
But he has been swamped by fans after the stalking drama became the world's Nol Netflix show.
Gadd, who plays a fictionalised version of himself in the seven-part series about his stalker Martha, said: "It really felt like one day it went on the platform and the next day there were people camping in my garden.
"And it was crazy. I never expected it to blow up like this.
"I believed it would be successful but I didn't expect overnight fame.
"Suddenly I couldn't really walk down the street anymore."
Speaking in Los Angeles, for the first time since the show made him an overnight success, Gadd said: "I always believed in the show and I really loved it and I thought it would sit as a little cult artistic gem on the Netflix platform maybe.
"But then overnight it was crazy. It felt like I woke up one day and everyone was watching"
Gadd, from Fife, was a little-known comedian when he wrote "true story" Baby Reindeer about his experience of being stalked by a character called Martha.
Since the drama was broadcast, internet sleuths identified his real-life stalker as Scots law graduate Fiona Harvey - who denies claims made in the show.
