I've got to tell parole board why rapist can't be set free

A WOMAN who was raped repeatedly by a serial beast has demanded to address the Parole Board for Scotland before it decides whether to free him early.

Yvonne Duncan, who bravely waived her right to anonymity, has been told she can write to the board but under current legislation cannot appear in person when it considers releasing Martyn Daniel later this month.

Daniel, 40, was jailed in December 2017 for nine years and seven months, with an extended period of three years' community supervision for horrific sexual violence and brutality against Yvonne, another woman and a girl of 15.

He was convicted of raping all three over an eight-year period to 2015 and of a catalogue of sadistic violence against Yvonne and the other woman.

Under rules introduced in 2016, Daniel could be forced to serve the full term due to the extended sentence but, less than six years after conviction, he is about to have his second attempt to secure early release.

Mum-of-three Yvonne, from Aberdeen, said: "I want this unfair law to change.

"I consider it a breach of my human rights and my freedom of speech. I can try to describe in writing the lasting effects of what he did but it won't have the same effect as hearing me.

"It's also an issue that he gets to see any written submission I make but I don't get to see or challenge what will be said on his behalf.

"He has all the rights. He can try to persuade them he has changed, although I know he can never change." She added:
