Reekie chases 1500m gold in Rome

JEMMA REEKIE claims her bold leap to take the low road south can see her hit new heights at the European Athletics Championships in Rome.

The 26-year-old will get straight into action in the heats of the women's 1500 metres when the showpiece begins this morning as one of five Scots chasing gold in the Italian capital.

The pain of near misses gave way to the euphoria of a first major medal with 800m silver at the World Indoors in Glasgow in March.

But the brave decision to decamp to Brighton for a fresh start with veteran coach Jon Bigg has taught Ayrshire's ace fresh lessons... on and off the track.
