Killer gas fears for devoted mum and daughter

A MUM and daughter were discovered dead in their house amid fears they may have been killed by carbon monoxide poisoning.

Catherine and Elizabeth Dalrymple were found in Haddington, East Lothian, by a concerned neighbour who is understood to have spotted a delivery package lying on their doorstep and went in to check on the pair.

Residents nearby received letters the next day from the fire service informing them of carbon monoxide testing.

Catherine, 84, was known as Malita, and Liz, 60, was her mum's carer.

Fire chiefs and police declined to comment about the cause of death following the tragic discovery last Wednesday.

Police said they were treating the deaths as "unexplained but not suspicious".

A neighbour, who asked not to be named, had been friends with the Dalrymple family for 35 years.
