But Choi produced a spectacular recovery yesterday to claim a two-shot victory and a cheque for £348,000.
His golf shone almost as brightly as the sunshine until the final hole when he ran up a five to playing partner Richard Green's birdie three.
But three birdies and an eagle in the first five holes of his back nine took Choi four shots clear of the field at 11 under.
