MIND THE GAP

Old Firm are miles ahead and we need bigger league with Hibs four points off third but just five off bottom

THIS is an SOS call for Scottish football. 

Would somebody please step up and try to make a fist of laying a glove on the Old Firm? The credibility of our game is at stake.

Look across all of the leagues across the world, is there any which starts every term with the type of formality we have in our top flight? Maybe there's an Amazonian village league which has yet to be discovered which is dominated in the way Celtic do but I'd doubt it.

A one-horse race has now been joined by Rangers who look capable of sustaining a title challenge but they are short of what's required to dethrone their rivals.

This is nothing new, we all know the financial reasons behind the status quo but we should all be worried that the gap between the big two and the rest is only getting bigger.

It's a two-team league which will finish with a plus-30 point margin between the Old Firm and the rest. That's deeply damaging for respect levels.
