>> Rape victim made to feel like her life 'wasn't worth protecting'

>> Mother calls for prosecution of cops who let sex fiend go free

THE mum of a sex worker raped by lain Packer five years after he murdered Emma Caldwell has blasted cops for leaving him free to attack women.

The monster twice raped the woman in 2010 at the very spot he killed tragic Emma five years earlier.

Last night, the mother of the Packer victim called for the prosecution of police officers who failed to identify the fiend as Emma's killer years before.

Packer, 51, was allowed to roam the streets, kerb crawling and attacking women in the years after Emma's death in 2005 as police tried to pin the crime on a group of Turkish men.

The mum of the 2010 victim told the Daily Record: "My daughter was treated like piece of dirt when she tried to report Packer for rape. I have no idea how many other women may have had the same experience.

"But he should have never even been on the streets in 2010 - he should have been arrested years before and umpteen women would have been spared their lives being wrecked.

"Any police officer who felt a sex worker's life wasn't worth protecting should be ashamed of themselves. Any officers who broke laws during the case should be hauled up to answer for themselves.

Police could have nailed Packer by 2007 after he linked himself to the remote scene of Emma's murder in 2005 at Limefield Woods, near Biggar, Lanarkshire. Many police officers at that time believed he was the killer.

But shameless Packer, who felt he was untouchable by 2010, returned to the scene and attacked the other victim.
