Report predicts heat pump savings if Labour reforms broken energy market

SCOTS who switch to a heat pump could save more than £500 a year in bills if the new Labour government reforms the energy market, campaigners say.

A WWF Scotland and Nesta Scotland report found 95 per cent of Scots who swap their gas boiler out for the eco-friendly alternative could make huge energy savings.

But this would depend on UK ministers reforming the National Grid so that electricity pricing is no longer tied to expensive gas and green heat is made more affordable.

Households fitted with heat pumps and other lowcarbon tech rather than fossil fuel heating could save an average of £566 annually with the right reforms, researchers said.
