School closed as 'higher risk' Raac concrete is found

A SCHOOL has been forced to close because collapse-prone concrete has been found inside.

Forres Academy in Moray will be shut to pupils today and tomorrow while structural engineers assess the danger posed by reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (Raac).

Raac has been found in more than 30 schools in Scotland since the crisis emerged.

Buildings were closed in England in the run-up to schools returning from their summer holidays a fortnight ago but Forres is believed to be the first in Scotland.

Pupils will learn remotely until the start of next week.

A spokesperson for Moray Council said: "Due to receiving new information on the Raac at Forres Academy from our structural engineer contractor, the status of the level of risk has been updated.
