We have to do better to recruit GPS

PATIENTS will miss out on millions of GP appointments due to the SNP government's failure to recruit enough doctors, it has been claimed.

Ministers have pledged to provide at least 800 more GPs within the next three years.

But a leading doctor says they are unlikely to reach the target and people will miss out.

Dr Iain Morrison, chairman of BMA Scotland's general practice committee, said: "The Scottish Government is nowhere near achieving its target of 800 more GPs by 2027.

"If this was achieved, over three million more appointments could be offered every year.

"We must do better to recruit and retain a vital workforce. The potential is there, we just need government to support us.
