THE mum of a pregnant woman murdered by her abusive husband is calling on the Scottish Government to take urgent action over honour-based abuse.
Fawziyah Javed, 31, was on holiday in Edinburgh with husband Kashif Anwar, 29, when he shoved her off Arthur's Seat in September 2021. The lawyer, who was 17 weeks pregnant, managed to tell passers-by that he pushed her before she died with her unborn child.
Her mum, Yasmin Javed, wants to see greater protections for honourbased crimes and has called on the Scottish Government to pass a statutory definition of the abuse.
She said: "The authorities need to do more to keep women safe. Every woman that contacts police in a situation like Fawziyah's should be seen as a potential murder victim.
