At His Majesty’s Theatre in Aberdeen yesterday, The First Minister said he opposes Labour’s “aggressive” oil and gas tax plans.

Former Tory Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher closed dozens of coal mines, devastating communities.

Labour plans to end a tax loophole allowing energy firms to avoid paying if they reinvest profits.

It follows UK leader Keir Starmer’s promise at the Scottish Labour Conference that North Sea oil and gas will continue to provide jobs in Scotland “for decades to come”.

Hours later, energy industry chiefs warned the proposed windfall tax could put 42,000 jobs at risk.
