A Vondr woman

Czech world No.42 Marketa Vondrousova, watched by husband Stepan, became the only unseeded woman of the Open era to be crowned Wimbledon singles champion.

Her rollercoaster victory on Centre Court defied the form book as she defeated sixth seed and last year’s runner-up, Ons Jabeur, 6-4 6-4.

Given that 12 months ago she was a mere spectator here, with her arm in plaster following two big wrist operations, Vondrousova’s history-making triumph is even more spectacular.

The girl with tattoos all over the arms and body then pledged to get another one.
