GARY Lineker was cheered by football fans yesterday as the fallout over his suspension plunged the BBC into sporting meltdown.

The Match Of The Day host, 62, watched his former team Leicester after he “stepped back” as host of the flagship sports show.

The Beeb’s weekend schedule was left in tatters after pundits and commentators went on strike in solidarity with him.

Ian Wright and Alan Shearer pulled out of Match Of The Day – cut to 20 minutes with no hosts, interviews or commentary.
