CRUMPLED UP

CHARLTON were made to sweat but the quality of Alfie May eventually told as they ended Cray Valley Paper Mills’ hopes of delivering one of the great FA Cup shocks.

Separated by 116 places in the pyramid, this should never have been much of a contest.

Yet the Isthmian League South East Division side, managed by cab driver Steve McKimm, battled gamely for half of this first-round replay before eventually being shredded by their League One neighbours.

A crowd of 1,500 packed into the Artic Stadium dreaming of a giant-killing that briefly threatened to arrive when Kyrell Lisbie cancelled out May’s first goal from the penalty spot.
