FOR a while we worried about the future of men’s tennis.
Because, let’s be honest, how does the sport follow a generation involving Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic?
The simple answer is, it doesn’t. It’s impossible to imagine anything will
ever compare to the golden era of these three gladiators.
Throw in Andy Murray as well, and we’ve all been privileged to live through a period for the ages, not just in tennis, but in sport in general.
But Wimbledon has shown the men’s game could well be in safe hands after all.
We have Carlos Alcaraz, who has conquered the world rankings at the age of just 20. The Spanish matador will go on to win countless Grand Slams and be the poster boy of his sport.
But he will have strong competition from Holger Rune, his senior by just six days. These two young studs met in the quarter-finals in a nod to what might be to come.
And how about American sensation Christopher Eubanks?
