RORY McILROY believes he is as close as he’s ever been to winning a fifth Major championship ahead of the US Open.
McIlroy finished second – one shot behind Wyndham Clark – in Los Angeles a year ago. The Northern Irishman hopes to go one better at Pinehurst No. 2.
He has not tasted Major success since the 2014 Open Championship.
Yet McIlroy revealed that if he retires a four-time Major champion, he will still be immensely proud of his career.
“I’m really proud of my body of work over the past 15 years and everything that I have achieved, whether it be season-long titles or individual tournaments or Majors,” he said after arriving in North Carolina.
