FOOTBALL united in grief after losing its “voice” – beloved sheepskin coat-clad commentator John Motson.
Motty, as he was known to millions during a broadcasting career spanning more than 50 years, died “peacefully in his sleep” aged 77, his family revealed yesterday.
His voice was instantly recognisable after he commentated on more than 2,000 matches including 29 FA Cups finals, 10 World Cups, 10 European Championships and 200 England games for the BBC.
