Postecoglou appeared furious that many Spurs fans wanted his team to lose against Manchester City to damage Arsenal's title chances, even at the expense of their own Champions League ambitions.
A 2-0 defeat in a tense and subdued atmosphere ensured City will pip Arsenal to the title if they win at home to West Ham on the final day on Sunday but ended Tottenham's hopes of a topfour finish.
Postecoglou had said before the game that he would never understand fans wanting their own side to lose and afterwards cryptically said he had "misread the situation" at the club.
