JOFRA ARCHER faces a race to be fit for the start of the Ashes next month, after pulling out of the Indian Premier League.
Archer underwent a minor procedure on his right elbow in Belgium last month and is now returning home from India, having been released by Mumbai Indians after suffering further pain in the joint. The 28-year-old fast bowler is being assessed by the ECB’s medical team, who do not believe surgery will be required.
Archer last played Test cricket in March 2021 and was out of action for nearly two years with elbow and back problems. He returned to international white-ball cricket at the start of the year, and England are hopeful he can spearhead their Ashes bowling attack, despite the latest issue.
