Just Stop Oil campaigners staged a sit-down demonstration on the A4 outside Baron's Court Tube at 7.30 am in an 18th consecutive day of disruption, with activists gluing themselves to the tarmac. Met Police officers made 26 arrests for obstructing the highway after specialists were videoed removing the protesters.
They also tried to calm irate motorists whose rush-hour commute was ruined. Some drivers stuck in the chaos near the Hammersmith flyover called the demonstrators "clowns" and told them "to get jobs". The road was reopened in both directions by 9.30 am.
"Britain doesn't give in to terrorism," said motorist Andrew Styles.
