BENGALURU: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday appealed to the governor to step in following the arrest of its legislator, CT Ravi, alleging political vendetta by the Congress-led state government. In a letter to Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot, BJP leaders alleged that the arrest of the MLC was a misuse of state machinery to silence voices of the opposition and demanded a fact-finding inquiry led by a former judge.
Leader of the opposition in the Karnataka legislative assembly, R Ashoka, said the governor has a constitutional responsibility in ensuring justice and safeguarding democratic principles. "As the Constitutional head of the State, your esteemed office plays a critical role in upholding the values of Democracy, ensuring adherence to the Rule of law, and acting as a neutral arbiter during moments of political and administrative turmoil. Today, we stand at such a juncture where your intervention is not only desirable but also indispensable," Ashoka wrote in the letter.
