RANCHI: The party also said it will hold the Ambedkar Nyay March on Tuesday to press for its demand.
Addressing a press conference at the Congress state headquarters here, former state president and Lohardaga legislator Rameshwar Oraon said the party would continue its protest until the home minister resigns.
"The BJP and its mother organisation, the RSS, have always been against the Constitution. They not only opposed the Constitution during its framing but also ensured the electoral defeat of Babasaheb Ambedkar. The Congress remains firm in demanding Amit Shah's resignation for disrespecting Babasaheb. We will continue our protest until he resigns," said Oraon.
The Congress has been up in arms over the issue since the controversy erupted during the discussion on the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution during the winter session of Parliament, which concluded last week.
As part of its series of protests, the party will hold the Ambedkar Nyay March across the state on Tuesday, seeking Shah's resignation. Its leaders held press conferences in all districts to this effect on Monday. Oraon said Shah's remark against Ambedkar was a result of the BJP's electoral setback in the Lok Sabha elections.
"People taught them a lesson in democratic values through their mandate in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The BJP is now showing its frustration against the Constitution and disrespecting Babasaheb. The saddest part is that instead of taking action against Shah, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is allowing them to engage in allegations and counter-allegations," said Oraon.
