DEHRADUN: A team of Uttarakhand Landslide Mitigation and Management Centre (ULMMC) has started a geological study through drilling in Bahuguna Nagar of Karanprayag town of Chamoli district, where cracks and fissures started to appear in their houses in 2023, as part of its ongoing investigation into the subsidence, an official familiar with the matter said on Friday.
Raghuveer Negi, a geologist at ULMMC, a unit of the Uttarakhand disaster management department, said: "The subsidence was reported in the area two years ago. The buildings were tumbling down and cracks were appearing in houses. We first carried out a geophysical investigation and now we are carrying out drilling to check the subsurface strata. We can use the information for the preparation of the designing purpose, following which treatment measures would be taken."
