Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday dismissed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ramesh Bidhuri's controversial remarks about her cheeks as "ridiculous," urging political leaders to focus on real issues concerning Delhi's residents ahead of the elections.

NEW DELHI:

Speaking to reporters after a joint parliamentary committee meeting, the Wayanad MP criticised the comment as "unnecessary" and irrelevant.

"It is a ridiculous remark. He never spoke about his own cheeks. This is all unnecessary. During the elections, we should focus on the important issues facing the people of Delhi," Vadra said.

Bidhuri, the BJP candidate from Kalkaji, stirred controversy on Sunday by promising smoother roads in the area, comparing them to Vadra's cheeks. His remarks drew widespread condemnation from the Congress and the AAP, with critics labelling them sexist and insulting.

Amid backlash, Bidhuri had expressed regret over his comments.
