State issues slew of directions to check impact of climate crisis

Chief secretary Radha Raturi on Thursday issued a slew of directions to the officials of various departments to check the impact of climate crisis under State Action Plan on Climate Change, including preparation and adoption of sustainable tourism development guidelines, adoption of innovations like 100 per cent waste segregation at tourist places, among others.

Officials aware of the matter said the chief secretary issued these directions while reviewing the State Action Plan on Climate Change at the Secretariat in Dehradun.

The Chief Secretary held detailed discussions with all the departments concerned, including Forest and Environment on the initiatives under State Action Plan on Climate Change, like climate risk, policy points, the status of greenhouse gas emissions of the state, financial support of the State Action Plan, monitoring and regular evaluation.

The chief secretary directed the agriculture and horticulture department to pay special attention to focus points such as promoting organic farming to improve soil quality, increasing irrigation capacity, expanding cultivation of local crops, increasing farmers' access to loans, insurance and modern machines, capacity development and use of clean energy with the help of solar power pumps.
