"The bodies are charred beyond identification. They have been sent for post-mortem to Panvel rural hospital and can only be identified through a DNA test," said a Raigad Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) in an official statement, adding the search for the remaining four missing people is still underway.
A team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) reached the chemical plant of Blue Jet Healthcare on Friday night and began rescue operations after a briefing from Raigad administration and police team led by superintendent Somnath Gharge.
"A lot of the structure collapsed due to the blast inside the factory, which posed a challenge for us in reaching the people trapped inside. Two bodies were found within two hours of starting the operation," said Ravi Prakash, second-in-command of the force's Pune unit. "Due to inflammable chemicals present in the plant, welding and cutting machinery cannot be used, which is making the entry into blocked areas difficult."
