IndiGo, Mumbai airport fined over flyers sitting on tarmac
Civil aviation authorities on Wednesday slapped a â¹1.2 crore penalty on IndiGo and 90 lakh fine on the operator of the Mumbai airport after passengers of the airline made their way onto the tarmac and were seen in videos having meals on the ground in an incident that occurred over the weekend.
The incident came to light when videos from it went viral on Monday. As they announced what may be the heftiest such penalties yet, the authorities --Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) cited violations of rules and the lack of reporting of the issue.
