According to the police, a large group of people, including members of the BJYM youth wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) - barged into Lalit Kala Kendra premises inside the Pune University campus on Saturday evening, threw black ink on the board of the institute and vandalised properties.
Following the incident, a first information report (FIR) was registered against 10-12 BJYM members for unlawful assembly and rioting under the Indian Penal Code at the Chatuhshrungi police station, a senior officer said.
"We have identified six people while probe is on to find their accomplices," Ankush Chintamani, inspector (crime), Chatuhshrungi PS, said.
Nikhil Shalimnkar, Shivam Balwadkar, Kiran Shinde, Sunny Memane, Pratik Kunjir and Dayanand Shinde, all BJYM members, have been booked, the officer added.
