K'taka minister's remark on HDK stirs 'racism' row
Hindustan Times|November 12, 2024
Karnataka minister BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan has courted a controversy by allegedly using a racist slur against Union minister HD Kumaraswamy, with both the Janata Dal (Secular) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) deploring his remark and demanding that the Congress government should sack Khan from the state cabinet.
K'taka minister's remark on HDK stirs 'racism' row

Addressing a rally in Ramanagara ahead of the assembly bypoll, Khan, the housing, waqf and minority affairs minister, on Sunday called the JD(S) leader "Kaalia Kumaraswamy"—a racist reference to the Union minister's complexion.

On Monday, senior BJP leader and Union minister for parliamentary affairs Kiren Rijiju condemned the remark and equated it with a controversial statement made by Congress overseas leader Sam Pitroda regarding India's diversity.

"I strongly deplore Congress Minister Zameer Ahmed calling Union Minister & Ex CM of Karnataka Sh. Kumaraswamy as 'Kaalia Kumaraswamy'. This is a racist remark, same as Rahul Gandhi's adviser calling South Indians look like Africans, North East as Chinese, North Indians as Arabs," Rijiju wrote on X.
