Taxpayer picks up €1.4m tab for 69 patients to get fitted with robotic penises

BIONIC penises have been fitted to 69 men with the HSE picking up the €1.4million tab over nine years. The device, known as a penile prosthesis, is surgically implanted and can be manually inflated, allowing a man with erectile dysfunction to have sex.

A further 17 either paid to have one or were covered by insurance for the op, which can cost up to €20,000. The word bionic is best-known in reference to show The Six Million Dollar Man, who had electronic implants.
