Charlie: I'll be fall right on the night

VETERAN broadcaster Charlie Bird vowed the injuries he suffered in a fall will not stop him taking part in charity work or meeting rock icon Bruce Springsteen.

The 73-year-old former RTE newsman was badly bruised and cut when he took the tumble while out walking on Sunday and was taken to hospital.

But Charlie, who was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in 2021, said he was "thankfully nothing's broken" and vowed to be ready for Pieta's Darkness into Light walk in Dublin's Phoenix Park this Saturday.

He also restated his dream of meeting legendary musician Springsteen, 73, who is due to begin three tour dates in Dublin from this Friday.

Charlie last week revealed he wants the rocker's song Land of Hope and Dreams to be played at his funeral.
