FAREWELL TO A GREAT

KILKENNY star Richie Hogan has announced his retirement from inter-county hurling.

Hogan, who turned 35 last month, completed 17 seasons with Kilkenny, winning seven All-Irelands, while he was Hurler of the Year in 2014.

He also won four All Stars, 12 Leinster titles and five National Leagues.

Hogan made what proved to be his last appearance for the county off the bench in this year's All-Ireland final defeat to Limerick, a role that he was reduced to for the last few years of his career due to injury, with the Danesfort man enduring acute problems with his back in particular.

Back in 2019, he intimated that he was set to retire only for his sending off in that year's All-Ireland final defeat to Tipperary giving him the conviction to continue for another season.
