STILL HOPE

RESCUERS were still hopeful they could save lives as they set off on a treacherous mission five days after Morocco's deadly earthquake.

More than 2,900 people were killed and at least 5,530 injured in Friday's 6.8-magnitude tremor.

The Irish Mirror caught up with the International Search and Rescue team in Talati N'Yaaqoub, high in the Atlas Mountains.

Twenty-four members of the 60-strong unit made the trip over the dangerous mountain range.

And the team brought four "live scent" dogs from the UK, with two travelling to Talati.

They have also used satellite imagery to try to locate survivors.

A huge traffic jam built up on the narrow, twisting road leading to the town as aid vehicles, emergency crews and families made the journey.

The road was blocked by landslides, fallen rocks and a crushed car.
