WARNINGS AS -6C ARCTIC BLAST LANDS

IRELAND is in the grip of a wintry blast with temperatures falling to -6C - but Met Eireann has warned worry about "what's coming next".

Freezing Arctic air saw snow blanket parts of Donegal yesterday with more widespread, blizzard-like conditions in store tomorrow.

Met Eireann yesterday issued three fresh Status Yellow weather warnings that run from 9pm last night to midnight on Friday.

Speaking on RTE's Today with Claire Byrne show, forecaster Joanna Donnelly said: "It's what's coming next that is going to give more of an issue.

"We have some rain moving into that cold air so it will fall as sleet and snow.

"There probably won't be accumulations [of snow] until Thursday and then more rain is coming into really cold air.

There is a huge amount of uncertainty, as there always is when dealing with snow in Ireland because we're on the edge of the cold air.
