FANS lifted the roof at the 3Arena last night but Katie Taylor homecoming fight ended in heartache.

The event marked one of the biggest fights in the history of Irish boxing with an 8,000 sell-out capacity crowd giving the venue its highest ever grossing event.

But her opponent Chantelle Cameron proved too strong.

Disappointed Katie said: “It’s not how I wanted the homecoming to go. I expected everything that came my way, it was a gruelling 10 rounds.

“Every single round was close. What can you do? This is boxing.

“I guess I just came up short tonight. I look forward to the next time we face eachother.”

Excitement ahead of the super lightweight showdown – Taylor’s first bout on Irish soil since turning professional in 2016 – built from early evening.

As crowds thronged the Dublin docklands venue one giddy supporter vowed: "We'll rip the roof off it."

Another die-hard Katie Taylor fan told the Irish Mirror how the 36-year-old had piqued her interest in the sport.
