Foden has long been earmarked for a role at the top of midfield, and impressed in a central position towards the end of last season particularly in the Champions League final.
With Ilkay Gundogan leaving City this summer and Kevin de Bruyne injured until the new year, a space has opened up for Foden to play behind Haaland and provide the creative spark.
Against Newcastle, Foden looked bright as a number ten next to Julian Alvarez in a similar position, but he was on the bench a week later against Sheffield United due to illness.
