MAYOR Andy Burnham has called for an ‘urgent meeting’ as residents are enduring a ‘sickening’ landfill stench.
Locals near the Pilsworth South Landfill site, next to the M66 between Bury and Heywood, have described the smells from the site as like ‘sticking your head in a bag of rotten meat’.
The stench has also hit residents in Darnhill, Summit, Heady Hill and Heap Bridge in Heywood, with some even reporting feeling physically sick.
The scale of the issue also prompted a petition that attracted over 3,000 signatures, calling for an investigation.
