A CITY fan has been banned from going to football games for three years after throwing a CHIP and attempting to headbutt a police officer.

Niall Dixon, 20, was one of thousands who attended City's Champions League fixture against Young Boys at the Etihad Stadium in November last year.

Before and during the game, the opposing fans, some of whom were socalled 'Ultras, had already caused chaos on the streets of the city centre and had ripped up seats and thrown them at City fans, Manchester Crown Court heard.

During the second half Dixon, from Glossop, was seen by officers at the Etihad stadium trying to throw an 'item' at the away fans. He was ordered to leave and resisted, and during the struggle attempted to headbutt one of the officers.
