LEADERS in Greater Manchester have unveiled their latest Clean Air Zone plans with the promise no driver would be charged under their current proposals.
Mayor Andy Burnham and Coun Eamonn O'Brien, Greater Manchester's clean air lead, presented the latest proposals at a press conference yesterday.
A charging Clean Air Zone was due to come into effect across Greater Manchester last May but was pulled in February 2022 for a review following a public backlash.
Work has since been ongoing to find ways to bring Greater Manchester's air quality in line with legal limits without adding expense to the taxpayer.
And the outcome of that work was presented yesterday, with the region's leaders insisting their latest proposals would 'deliver clean air faster than a charging zone could'
