However, he's now being linked with a move back to Manchester after a successful loan spell at Boavista and a strong season back in France.
Numerous reports claim new United boss Amorim is keen on bringing Gomes back to the club.
And the England star - whose contract at Lille expires at the end of this season is not expected to command a large transfer fee.
Gomes has previously spoken about the heartbreak of leaving United and the harsh words from then-manager Jose Mourinho.
'The Special One' didn't rate Gomes highly enough to give him an extended run in his team and the playmaker eventually departed for free in 2020.
