IT'S never quiet around our way on New Year's Day, and this year the birds have been celebrating a mild winter and plenty of food so far.
This first week of 2024 has been great for ducks, but heavy rains have probably discouraged many nature lovers. The forecast next week looks a bit better.
The rain didn't stop my bird table being a busy place for sparrows, starlings, and wood pigeons. There is some shelter, but this tends to be filled by the bulky pigeons.
It is always wonderful when a robin chooses your garden as part of its territory. If I wander out before the sun has risen, this red-breasted youngster is ready to hop out of the bushes to greet me. Robins will be joining our local blackbirds as the first birds to sing in the dawn chorus in the coming months.
