LANCASHIRE’S plans to build a second ground have moved a step closer.
With The Hundred, international cricket and concerts putting pressure on the availability of Emirates Old Trafford, the Red Rose want to create a second venue which will eventually host some first-team matches.
A planning application for what the club call ‘a new high-quality sports facility in the heart of the county’ has now been approved in principle by councillors – subject to any call-in from the Secretary of State.
Lancashire will initially host men’s second team and women’s matches at the ground, and will use it as a training base for all Red Rose sides – from age groups up to the first team.
