Evans was so giddy amid the sound of United supporters rocking to his name in the away end at Turf Moor he described it as the best night of his life. Post-match media obligations meant Evans was one of the last to leave the pitch and you would not have begrudged him for milking the moment.
There was nothing ostentatious about Evans' celebrations. Too often in recent years, United have lacked proper grown-ups in the squad and Evans' team-mates visibly buzzed off his authority.
United players have been strikingly quiet when it has mattered most this season and they were more communicative at Burnley. Evans did not hesitate in rollicking Scott McTominay in the first half and Bruno Fernandes' leadership was more constructive.
