WHEN Sid Sethi accidentally broke his glasses just days before an important university exam, it would change the trajectory of his life.
The 29-year-old was studying business at the University of Manchester when his much-needed spectacles snapped. Leaving him needing a new pair at the last minute, Sid hopped on a Magic Bus into the city centre where he found himself in a dilemma - many glasses were overpriced, poor quality or he was unable to try them on.
After forking out £150 for a new pair, Sid was told they wouldn't arrive for three weeks, forcing him to sit his exam without them. Frustrated by his experience, the budding entrepreneur was inspired to kickstart his own eyewear business, Specscart, in 2018.
Headquartered in Bury, with three retail stores across Greater Manchester, the company has become a huge success - earning more than £2.6m in 2023.
