MANCHESTER 'IS CORE' TO MIGRATION OF ROLES FROM LONDON

More jobs for civil servants in city as Salford HQ to open

THE minister responsible for moving more government jobs out of London has set out the kind of opportunities that will be on offer in Greater Manchester.

Conservative MP John Glen has promised the huge migration of civil servants out of the capital will continue, with more roles set to be relocated to other parts of the country, during a visit to some government offices in Manchester city centre.

It comes after the cabinet office minister set out his ambition to cut the size of the civil service in a speech on Tuesday.

But speaking to the M.E.N., he said the creation of jobs outside of London will continue.

Mr Glen said Manchester is 'core' to the Places for Growth programme which has seen more than 16,000 civil service roles relocated since 2020.

There are now 21,000 government jobs based in Greater Manchester, up from 17,560 in 2019.
