Non-dom axe shows us just how panicked the Tories really are
Manchester Evening News|March 09, 2024
IT’S ALMOST comical to see Conservatives consider adopting Labour’s policy of stopping the non-dom tax loophole just before an election! For years they have argued against it. How panicked they are!
Non-dom axe shows us just how panicked the Tories really are

They also allow tax on investment charged at vastly lower rates than tax on income, allowing big investors vast wealth which grows fast at low tax. This new wealth is invested in more assets and ordinary people are charged unsustainable amounts to use them - rent being the most crippling.

Much wealth (£570bn in 2022) is hidden in tax havens like the British Virgin Islands or the Caymen Islands and much less taxpayers money is used by the Inland Revenue to pursue tax avoiders than benefit cheats, even though the amounts involved are huge by comparison (£35bn in 2021 lost to tax avoidance; £6.4bn in 2022 lost to benefit fraud).

The Conservative Party furthers the interests of billionaires and millionaires, pure and simple. They have prospered under the Conservatives since 2010 while income tax for low and middle earners is at its highest since the Second World War and public services are collapsing through underfunding.

Councils are going bankrupt and unable to fund basic services. The NHS, the pride of the world in 2010, is on its knees in 2024 and betrayed by the lie it receives record funding, when in fact much of the money given to the NHS is hived off to private providers. Rivers are full of sewage! Just before an election they promise tax cuts and say how well the country is doing when it is obvious how badly it is doing. The con trick is transparent. Even diehard Conservative voters are starting to see how they have been duped. That’s why polls are not narrowing! Gaye Hanson

How have we got so dirty?

IT IS HARD to believe how dirty this country has become in my lifetime.
